New ‘Camelot’ Court Takes Shape

By CAMPBELL ROBERTSON; Compiled by LAWRENCE VAN GELDER

For one brief, shining moment — actually four days, which is brief enough — the New York Philharmonic will put on semistaged concert performances of the Lerner and Loewe musical “Camelot” at Avery Fisher Hall, and the cast is (mostly) set. Gabriel Byrne, left, will play King Arthur, with the rising opera star Nathan Gunn as Lancelot, Christopher Lloyd as Pellinore and Marc Kudisch as Sir Lionel. A spokesman for the Philharmonic said Marin Mazzie was in “advanced negotiations” to play Queen Guenevere. The performances, under the direction of Lonny Price, are scheduled to run from May 7 through May 10, with the May 8 performance to be broadcast nationally on PBS.
