NY SOCIAL ELITE POWER RANKING (Jan 24 - Feb 7, 2006) January 24, 2007
Posted by socialrank in : Articles, Rankings , trackback
On January 17th, Rachel Roy appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and took a step closer to superstardom. Just few years ago, Tory Burch transformed her humble collection into a multi-million dollar empire and last April Margherita Missoni raised her international profile while sitting next to queen of media in Chicago. Since Rachel’s national television coming out, our e-mail box was flooded with letters from women from across the America who wanted to learn more about this designer and a socialite. On January 31st she will showcase her Fall 2007 collection to a select group of editors, buyers and friends and she has just been confirmed as a fashion sponsor for the AMNH Gala. She’s following in the footsteps of Versace which oversaw the successful event last year. All that propelled her to the top spot on our rankings, making her just the fourth woman to top this increasingly competitive list. But that momentum is not discouraging other top girls. Tinsley Mortimer, Zani Gugelmann, Fabiola Beracasa, Amanda Hearst, and Bee Shaffer are just few of the big-time names who are now in the City of Lights. They are dining, wining and schmoozing their way around the exclusive Couture Week and they are determined to start their year right in the most impeccable and fashionable way possible. The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York will begin on February 2nd, where nearly every socialite is expected to make a statement and appearance. We’re watching, taking notes and counting your points, ladies. It will be one heated winter.
Each of the 12 judges evaluated the contenders in four categories with all numbers averaged to come up with the total power ranking:
- The personal styles and designer relations (1-20 pts)
- Press coverage in major publications and gossip columns (10 pts)
- Appearances and commitment to events (10pts)
- Hot factor- what makes each of the individuals sizzle with personality (10 pts)

Hoorah!
I don’t love Ms. Roy, but I’m just glad it’s not Tinsley again. Women who balance a busy work life and family life with many social engagements are far more fascinating than, oh, jobless girls who only concern themselves with being popular, shopping and tennis (or is it horseback riding?) while their husbands are serviced by naughty secretaries.
Also, love the chignon. Like the trench.
Rachel Roy is gorgeous.
I’m glad to see Ivanka going up, but sad to see Lauren Martinez du Pont and Eleanor Lembo Ylvisaker so low on the list. These girls were born to be better than this!
Also, love, love, love Julia Restoin-Redfield!
Go Rachel!
Rachel Roy sucks. Oprah probably had her on the show because she thought she was Black.
