“More than just fueling cutting-edge art, Eyebeam's about un-abstractly engaging the world...” Beats Per Minute Magazine
Have you ever heard of EYEBEAM (www.eyebeam.org)? Some call it an artist’s colony, some call it an art and technology laboratory, and others a new media gallery. We, on the other hand, know that’s its each of these, both of these, and most of all, so much more than these. At EYEBEAM, fresh ideas are fertilized with digital technology, science, raw materials, sound, and a limitless realm of what-we-can-get-our-hands-on, and then born into the “everyday” to make us feel, disagree, think, question, challenge, align. EYEBEAM is about the interaction between artist and art viewer, but more importantly, about the interaction between “you” and “me” and the impact we can make on the “world” we share.
Join us for EYEBEAM’s Freedom and Creativity Benefit on May 6th, 2008, and we’ll show you what we’re talking about. On this special night, it will be our distinct privilege to honor an individual whose professional and personal accomplishments embody the spirit of EYEBEAM. Craig Newmark, the visionary and Founder of Craig’s List, has used the internet as a vehicle through which people can connect to one another, exchange ideas, and empower themselves and their communities without commercial restraints. Newmark is fearlessly impacting and positively affecting culture. What’s more EYEBEAM than that? Here are a few more examples of EYEBEAM projects that are doing the same:
• Personal Kyoto, a website designed to help you set a Kyoto-friendly energy consumption plan: www.personal-kyoto.org
• Double Happiness Jeans Company on Eyebeam Island in Second Life, featured in New Frontier on Main at last month’s Sundance: www.doublehappinessjeans.com
• Fundrace, presidential campaign gift tracking software, now hosted by The Huffington Post: http://fundrace.huffingtonpost.com
• Graffiti Research Lab, featured in Time and renowned for their urban interventions across the world: http://graffitiresearchlab.com
• Anti-Advertising Agency known for its creative reclamations of public space: http://antiadvertisingagency.com
Please join us for the EYEBEAM Freedom and Creativity Benefit and help us continue to cultivate ideas and inspire change. You can find a response form which outlines various ways you can join us in the Official Media section above; but as all things EYEBEAM go, if there’s a way you’d like to participate that’s not included, feel free to create your own commitment. If you’d like more information, or to arrange a visit to EYEBEAM, please reach out Jayme Rubright at 212-867-1117.
Freedom and Creativity collide on May 6th, 2008 at EYEBEAM. We hope you’ll be there to celebrate. Thank you for your consideration.
