Baird Jones: Celebration of a Great Life
unknown date
About

The memorial reception will take place at Webster Hall on East 11th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues from 7-9pm on Thursday, April 10, 2008. It will include an open bar from 7 till 9 and a survey of Baird’s life and works. The reception will be followed by a memorial party from 9-11pm with an open bar from 10-11. There will be a projection of Baird’s art collection of celebrity painters on the ballroom screen and a display of artwork created in his memory by his friends, Mark Kostabi, Damon Johnson, James Tully, Conrad Vogel and others.

Highlights of Baird’s early life and career as a publicist for Studio 54 will be shown at 8:30 on the screen in the ballroom with an intro by the legendary talk show host, Joe Franklin. On the video are extremely amusing clips from the days when Baird ruled the talk shows - from Joan Rivers, Phil Donahue, Geraldo, Richard Bay, Jenny Jones to Joe Franklin, the inventor of the TV talk show. (Baird often portrayed a Borat-like character leading a chastity movement in nightclubs.) Guests include gossip columnists and publicists who Baird worked with and people he interviewed. For a preview of his art collection or videos of his gossip items see www.bairdjones.net . Two hundred copies of Baird’s magnum opus, “Mark Kostabi and the East Village Scene”, will be available for VIP guests.

Through Baird’s frequent press mentions, the newly landmarked Webster Hall stayed in the forefront of the popular consciousness. Webster Hall hosted the world’s top music acts, media parties, and was the place where Al Gore and President Clinton both launched their presidential campaigns. It is only fitting that a Baird Jones memorial gathering take place here.
