Gracia Violeta Ross is 30 year old female from La Paz- Bolivia. Ross has studied Anthropology in Bolivia, and completed Master Training on Gender, Sexual and Reproductive Health in the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia in Lima- Peru.
Since year 2000 when she discovered her HIV positive status, she decided to organize the people living with HIV/ AIDS in Bolivia in order to push Bolivian government to deliver care and medications.
Ross is working closely with regional networks of PWAS like REDLA (Latin American Network of PLWHA) and the REDBOL (Bolivian Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS) as well. Gracia Violeta has strong linkages with the ICW (International Community of Women Living with HIV and AIDS).
Her strong commitment with gender issues and gender based violence, due to her experience as a rape survivor and a woman living with HIV, are key inputs to the cause of gender equality for women and girls living with HIV/ AIDS in Bolivia. Violeta Ross has wide experience as a facilitator for HIV/ AIDS workshops, sensitization speeches and research regarding Gender and AIDS, thanks to her studies in Anthropology.
Ross has represented Bolivia and Latin America in several times in different forums, conferences, symposiums, etc, lately she is been selected to represent Latin America and the Caribbean as an Alternate Delegate in the NGO delegation of the Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) of UNAIDS. Ross represented the Bolivian civil society in the last United Nations Special Session on HIV/AIDS (UNGASS) in 2006. Currently Ross is one of the Latin America and Caribbean delegates in the Developing Countries NGO Delegation in the Global Fund against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Board. Ms Ross served as National Chair of the Bolivian Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS from 2005-2007. She has served in the XVI International AIDS Conference as the Community Program Committee Co-chair.
Ross has several publications regarding HIV/AIDS issues; she writes as person living with HIV, she is also a public HIV speaker in Bolivia and overseas. She is member of the Leadership Council of the Global Coalition on Women and AIDS, a UNAIDS initiative. Violeta Ross received several awards in Bolivia and internationally.
