Thierry Chaunu is President and Chief Operating Officer of LEVIEV/KLG Jewelry LLC headquartered in New York. Launched in London in May 2006, LEVIEV has immediately been recognized as one of the world’s ultimate diamond jewelry luxury brand. LEVIEV specializes in very large and rare diamonds and is 100% vertically integrated, with direct ownership of mines. The first LEVIEV flagship store opened at 31 Old Bond Street, London. The second flagship store opened on Madison Avenue and 62nd Street in New York in November 2007, and a third flagship store is currently under completion in Moscow (slated to open in February 2008). In addition to being a legend in the diamond industry, Mr. Lev Leviev also owns scores of companies in real estate, mining, oil and media and is a leading world philantropist.
A Parisian native, Thierry Chaunu started his career in Miami in 1981 developing designer eyewear licenses such as Celine, Leonard, Helena Rubinstein, Ted Lapidus, and Burberry’s. In 1985, he joined Cartier International Headquarters in Paris as a Senior Product Manager, and was named Cartier’s Vice President of Marketing in the US in 1987. In 1992 he became President of Christofle Silver, the famed French luxury tableware purveyor, with 14 boutiques opened in the US, Canada and Mexico. From 1999 until 2005, Thierry Chaunu was President of Chopard USA Ltd. In 6 years, Chopard became one of the premier luxury brand in watches and jewelry in the United States, with 7 Boutiques (New York, Palm Beach, beverly Hills, Las Vegas, South Coast Plaza, Miami-Bal Harbour, Aspen) and a noted presence at the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the Cannes Film Festival.
Thierry Chaunu received a Diploma of Graduation from Lake Forest High School, Illinois in 1974. He obtained his Baccalaureate in sciences and mathematics in Angers, France, in 1975. In addition to holding a Diplôme of the prestigious French Ivy league Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris in 1978 (known as “Sciences Po”), he is also a graduate of l’Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales in Paris, where he obtained a Diploma in Chinese Civilization in 1979.
Thierry Chaunu served as Trustee of the American Cancer Society of Palm Beach from 2001 until 2005, and is a Board Member of the American Watch Association since 2000. He served as President of the Association of Political Sciences Alumni in the United States, (from 1997 until 2004) and serves currently as Board Member. He also sat on the U.S. Advisory Committee of the Comité Colbert group of French luxury goods companies (1993-1998). From 1981 to 1985, he was President of the Alliance Française Institute in Miami, a non-profit cultural organization.
A Navy Reserve Officer, he holds the rank of Lt. Commander (Capitaine de Corvette) in the French Navy and remains active as a Liaison Officer in joint naval exercises with the U.S. Navy.
Thierry Chaunu is a dual French and American citizen and resides in Greenwich, CT. He has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows and was Chairman of the “Super Models of the World” pageant in Los Angeles in 1990. His many passions include contemporary art, rare books, vintage car races, and alpine skiing, and, last but not least, “diamond necklaces, and diamond watches!”
Thierry Chaunu, his American-born wife Vivian and their two sons live in Greenwich, Connecticut.
