Olivia Malone Photography
About
Olivia Malone was born in 1982 and raised on the east side of Los Angeles. She received her BFA in Photography and Imaging from NYU Tisch School of the arts in 2004. She currently divides her time traveling between Los Angeles and where she lives now in New York. Her photography explores the transitions between youth and adulthood, emphasizing the period where freedom and independence define the essence of youth's unabashed allure. Using subjects handpicked from real life, artists, designers, scene icons, musicians, and her closest friends, she utilizes symbolic locations and real people to convey concepts that draw upon her own experiences in a symbiotically fantastical and candid world. What is most striking to her is the process of coming into one's self possession, however chaotic it may be. It is both the awkwardness of the transition and the sincerity of her subjects that she believes the true beauty lies. She credits her approach as a mixed influence of classic documentary portraiture merged with the edge and intensity of contemporary fashion. Olivia has exhibited in group shows in Edinburgh, New York, Los Angeles, and Austin.
