“Juno,” the oh-so-popular little comedy about a pregnant 16-year-old, added to its accolades when it was named the best independent film of 2007 on Saturday at the Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, Calif., The Associated Press reported. Its star, Ellen Page, was chosen as best actress, and Diablo Cody, its writer, won for best first screenplay. Honors for best actor went to Philip Seymour Hoffman for his work in the sibling drama “The Savages.” The directing award went to Julian Schnabel for “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,” based on the memoir of the French Elle magazine editor Jean-Dominique Bauby, who suffered a paralyzing stroke. The Spirit Awards, presented by the Film Independent organization, honors movies that cost less than $20 million and derive a significant part of their budget from outside the Hollywood studio system.
