The fall runway gave legwear another huge push this season, as ready-to-wear firms accessorized bare legs with some key emerging trends.

"This kind of color makes me want to have fall now," Ken Downing, senior vice president and fashion director at Neiman Marcus, said of the Proenza Schouler show, where the colorful leg took center stage. "I think we'll continue to see the opaque leg in charcoal and black, but the color brings life to the runway and it is so important."

Robert Burke of Robert Burke Associates, a consultancy based in New York, said, "Color is crucial to accessories and legwear is part of that. I'm definitely walking away with the idea of color."

The return of sheer hosiery also had some tongues wagging last week, where some of fashion's rising stars — Alexander Wang, Doo-Ri Chung, Phillip Lim — discarded heavy, opaque tights for a sexy, sleek leg.

"There's going to be a reintroduction to the sheer leg in a big way," Downing said. "Chanel haute couture just did it and I think consumers are going to start wanting the 'lacquered leg' look."

Other fall trends included knitted tights at Rodarte and Tibi, as well as sparkled Lurex hose as seen at Badgley Mischka and Anna Sui.
