Last night’s X Factor auditions were interesting to say the least. On this the 15thseries of the show, on contestant stood out more than most, and that’s an understatement.
Stood center stage was statuesque drag queen Gingzilla, as you can see from the picture, this isn’t your standard drag queen, but, who is the ginger-bearded performer – and more importantly, did she do enough to make it through to the next round? Here’s the rundown on Gingzilla.
Gingzilla’s real name is Ben Hudson. Were told he is 32 years old and is from Sydney, Australia. Now, his big ginger beard is stand out enough you would think, but no, the fact that he’s also 7ft tall is pretty insane as well.
Before he auditioned for the X Factor, you may well have caught her act at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where she performed in the show Gingzilla: Glamonster vs The World.
The show addressed gender equality during the 1950s and 60s, and took inspiration from the monster movies of the same era, hence the name Gingzilla. He also fronted the Edinburgh show Late Night Lip Service, playing host to some of the wilder acts at the Fringe.
Ok, so back to the X Factor, what did Simon and the other judges think of her? The simple answer is , they loved it. Gingzilla delivered a swing version of the White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army, and it was met with seriously rave reviews. Robbie said to him: “That was incredible, and the next time I do a swing album will you duet with me doing that version?” Simon chimed in with: “You know what it is Ginge – your voice is better than even you know.”
So, did he get through?? Of course he did, and with four yeses. But, does a place in the Six Chair Challenge await?
The X Factor continues tonight on ITV at 8pm.
