For all you DC comic fans out there, it is now official, Warner Bros and DC have just released a joint statement that confirms Joaquin Phoenix will play The Joker and The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips will in the directors seat for a film that is apparently, “meant to be different from comic book superhero movies”.
Word has it that Warner Bros are not going the normal route with the movie and say that this Joker origin story will be an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale”.
Fans are obviously asking questions, and as of yet the movie has no title, but, that could all change when Warner Bros holds its annual presentation at Comic-Con International next weekend.
This movie will be released and produced under a new Warner Bros Studios division. It is dedicated solely on DC Comics vast collection of villains.
As we now know, Jared Leto, who played the Joker in Suicide Sqaud, has jumped ship and joined the Marvel franchise. His first movie will be the Spider-Man spin-off Morbius, the Living Vampire.
The timeline for the production on this Joker movie is set to be in great shape, and is good to go for a possible 2019 release.
