Well here it is, the winner of the Great British Bake Off 2018 is Rahul Mandal. Talking about his journey, Rahul said: “This is probably first time I got anything like this, a trophy. I talk so much most of the time, I don’t know what to say now.” Adding: “I don’t know what to say. I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry or what, I just feel like I need to talk with my mum.”
He then called his mum with the news and she responded by giving her son a special prayer in honour of his win.
As well as Rahul, Ruby Bhogal and Kim-Joy competed in the final for overall baking glory, this followed the 3 being the survivors of 12 contestants looking for glory during this years series.
So, how did the final go down? Well, it started with a signature challenge where the 3 had to create a batch of doughnuts, this was followed by the technical challenge that saw the show mix things up by having the contestants outside of the Bake Off tent for the first time. In this challenge they had to create pitta bread with three dips on a campfire, using a slate to cook them to perfection.
Rounding the show off, the contestants ended with three showstoppers, including one with the lost city of Atlantis as it’s theme and another an wonderfully edible rock garden.
It almost went horribly wrong for Rahul, his storage jar exploded due to the heat which forced him to restart his bake. He was given 15 extra minutes to finish, and in all honesty, Rahul didn’t miss a beatWell done Rahul for a hard earned victory.
